NEW MEMBERS ARE ALWAYS MOST WELCOME

AOMC Members are reminded that all vehicles that take part in Club Outings must be appropriately registered with VicRoads, and it is the responsibility of owners to ensure that their vehicles are at all times roadworthy.  Remember that events must be advertised in the Newsletter to make them eligible for participation of “Red Plate” Permit holders.
Published Club events and runs are open to any AOMC affiliated car clubs and their members.
Committee meetings are held on a regular basis, and Members are welcome to attend. Please contact a Member of Committee for information about venues etc.

The Register acknowledges and greatly appreciates the support of the City of Whitehorse in its' contribution to our club under the Council's Community Grants Program for the 2004/2005 financial year.

With the exception of official notices, responsibility for the contents of the newsletter rests with the author(s) of each contribution, not with the Register and its members.

Changes to the Rules of Association

At the Annual General Meeting this year, 4th of August 2008, I am going to propose a number of changes to our rules. Most of the changes presented are merely updates to our rules, and some are actual changes that the Committee would like to make. In keeping with the rules as they stand, changes must be advertised 1 month in advance, voted on by the members, and if approved, sent to Consumer Affairs for final checking. This is quite a lengthy process, but I believe that it is worth checking our rules occasionally to ensure that they are up to date.

In suggesting these changes we have sort input from a number of members, and we have also needed to consult the model rules as published by consumer affairs. Below is a summary of the updates and changes, but full copies of the rules will be available at the July meeting and at the AGM. Please free to read the rules and to ask questions. The rules are not something that we refer to often, but they are a necessary part of our organization, and so it is important that they are up to date and reflect who we are.

Summary of changes/updates

Interpretation

We suggest the additions of the following interpretations to remove any ambiguity in the rules.
“He” includes “She” and vice versa
“in writing” shall mean any acceptable form of written communication

Membership

- We suggest the removal of associate membership to the register as there was no actual difference between an associate member and a full member. We also suggest adding “Junior Membership” to encourage younger members into the Register. The membership clause suggested would read as follows:

4. Membership of the Morris Register of Victoria Incorporated shall be open to the following persons.

(1) Full members –

(a) Owners of all types of Morris badged vehicles. Any dispute regarding the validity of a vehicle shall be determined by the Committee.

(b) Owners of special interest Morris and Morris related vehicles upon the decision of the Committee.

(c) Persons with an interest in Morris badged vehicles.

Provided that, subject to Committee approval, all vehicles in 4.1(a) and (b) shall remain in essentially standard form as manufactured or sold, retaining the characteristics of the original vehicle.

(2) Junior Members – Any person interested in the objectives of the Morris Register of Victoria Incorporated and up to the age of 18 years prior to the commencement of the next financial year, shall be eligible for Junior Membership at the discretion of the Committee.

(3) Country members - Any member resident outside a radius of 75 kilometers from the Melbourne General Post Office shall be classified as a country member.

(4) All members, except Junior Members, shall have voting rights and be eligible for election to the Committee.

Vehicle Eligibility

- We suggest that we retain the Morris Badged criteria but with the following addition to allow for our members that have more than just Morris cars.
Provided that a member has a Morris Badged vehicle listed on the Register, that member will be allowed to obtain club permits for other vehicles using their membership in the Morris Register of Victoria. Such vehicles must be advised to the Registrar and listed on a supplement to the Register. These vehicles are not eligible for entry in competitive events organized by the Morris Register of Victoria.

Application for Membership

- We suggest the removal of “Nomination” for membership as we do not nominate people to be members of the Register. People apply for membership and so we suggest replacing all mentioning of “Nomination” with “Application”.
- We also suggest that we replace “Secretary” with “New Member Secretary” as the applications go to the “New Member Secretary”

Entrance Fees

- We would suggest that we add to this that “Junior Members” pay 50% of the full member fee. Ie Full Members 100%, Country Members 75% and Junior Members 50%. This will cover the cost of a newsletter and Insurance.

Other General Updates

- We suggest that changes be made to allow for electronic distribution of our newsletter where a member requests. Currently we must serve notices of meetings via pre-paid post to a members address as it appears on the Register. - We do this currently for General Meetings but as we have more and more members asking to receive their newsletter electronically it would make sense that we allow for this in our rules.
- We also suggest that reference is made to the Registrar in place of the Secretary for matters relating to the Register of Members as it is our Registrar that maintains the Register of members, not the Secretary.
- There are several punctuation updates and references to “him” or “he” that we have replaced to remove and gender bias.

BEWARE!!! - Wanted Scams
Seems there are several scams around at present for unwary old car enthusiasts.  The Vintage Drivers newsletter has issued a warning where a member placed an ad for a hard to get part he needed and was phoned by a "gentleman" offering him the part.  The story is apparently the same, he is retiring from his farm, has found this treasure and will freight it to the advertiser in the next day or so.  He gives a false address and details of a bank account, and asks for payment to be made directly into his account, which is also in a false name.  NSW Police have apparently being trying to find him for some time.  Two incidents heard of were in Moree and Inverell. (At the last Vintage Drivers Club meeting 23/07/2004, it was reported that NSW Police had laid charges related to a similar scam. Ed.)
