Goondiwindi Town

Goondiwindi is an Australian town which is situated on the MacIntyre River in Queensland near the New South Wales border, 350 kilometres south west of Brisbane.

Settled in the 1840's by pastoralists, Goondiwindi emerged in the latter half of the 19th century as an important administrative and commercial centre. Goondiwindi's name stems from Aboriginal origin, meaning 'Resting Place of the Birds'.

The town's major rural products include wheat, cotton, beef and wool while the towns major industries include service industries, machinery sales and repairs. Goondiwindi is also home to one of the largest cotton gins in the world and tours are available.

Goondiwindi is the commercial hub of a vast agricultural and pastoral sector which produces cotton, grain, wool, beef, lamb and pork for domestic and overseas markets, while Waggamba Shire is one of Australia's premier primary production regions.

Country people are known for their warm hospitality and the people of Goondiwindi and district are no exception, with a vast array of hotels, motels and restaurants.
